Know You Got SOLE

First of all introduce yourself to everyone, who are you and what do you do?

First of all- Thanks for having me stop by Just For The Culture. It’s a great site that I hope catches on rapidly.

My name is Sean “Paper Chasr” Williams also known as Ope (like “Hope” but without the “H”). I’m a man of many hats, but the one folks know me for predominantly is the Producer, Co-Host, and Channel Programming Manager for OSD (Obsessive Sneaker Disorder). OSD is the world’s only weekly talk-show and internet video network dedicated exclusively to kicks. I’m also a music producer for over 20 years now.

Where did the whole concept of the album come from?

This album was created as an added dimension to my sneaker documentary “Know You Got SOLE”. I set out to have at least 10 songs (all about kicks) created to go along with the film. Little did I know at the time I’d be releasing the music before the film, but that’s a blessing to me now. I was not always happy about the film delays, but the music kept me going.

What images do you think come to mind to the artist in this project when creating such specific niche music?

Every artists that joined me on this project is into kicks to varying degrees. Some heavily, some not much but still like kicks, some have been turned into sneaker fiends just by being involved with this project. With that said, I think every artists put themselves through a process of expressing how the love kicks to reflect their own level of involvement. So I think for some it was an easier task than others. You have to broaden your scope to pay attention to what most of the folks around you are wearing in order to feel really involved and nail down your approach (in my opinion).

Give me a little background on where you’re are artistically right now?

Artistically I’m in the most productive space I’ve been in over 3 years. This album is my return from retirement so to speak. 3 years ago I left music alone all together due to being super frustrated with quite a few situations. My film is being completely re-shot, and I’m happy that the music that I created for the documentary is still fresh enough to have an impact on this thing we call sneaker culture. I have quite a few new music projects coming this year that I think will all have an impact in a different way. 20X is really turning out to be something.

Who are some of the guest of this project?

This album has some of the best MC in independent Hip-Hop music on it. Most of the artists I’ve known for years like Substantial and Mr. Mecca (Dominion), Fresh Daily, Helixx C. Armageddon, Benjamin Hooks and Taajwar (Little Egypt).

Others are new talent that I think are the best chance at the world getting good Hip-Hop music again such as LoJ, Proper, Hotwire, and Boogie Down By Committee (BDBC). I produced 8 of the 10 songs. The 2 that I did not were handled by Malakye (BDBC), and Beat Renaissance. Both of which I’m happy to say produce great music.

What do you plan/want to accomplish with this project?

My goal is to give the sneaker lovers more than just a movie that they can enjoy as part of the overall goal for Know You Got Sole. I’m releasing the music first to serve as both a serious advertisement for the film which is not too far off. My thought is that if I would have released the film 1st, then the music would be forgotten about like most soundtracks do. Soundtracks are one of the poorest performing segments for music sales. I’m hoping I’ve found a way to change that.

Where did the whole internet tour idea came from? i thought that was interesting…

Thank you. The idea came from the basic idea that with computers and the internet being the way it is, people can travel the world without even leaving their home. I set it up to work just like a recording artist on a tour to promote their release. Evert stop on the tour is a new performance, a new look, a different jewel dropped on the readers, all in relation to the same movement, project, or endeavor. It also showcases the different styles of journalism and creativity that each web site possesses. I hope I’ve created a new way to promote not just music, but anything folks are passionate about spreading the word about.

Will there be a next album?

There will be 5 more projects on the horizon with everyone from folks with fame to the youngest and brightest who need their shot. Each project more unique that the previous. I hope I’m invited back to discuss them when I have them done. Things are flowing along at a rapid pace to say the least for 20X!

Besides music, what other artistic fields do you find your self having interest in? what else is next for Paper?

Well, there’s my co-hosting duties on OSD every Wednesday as always. There’s a serious OSD plot to change sneaker culture. I’m still re-filming Know You Got Sole (the movie), I’m also planning videos for some of the songs on the soundtrack (I also direct music videos), and last but definitely not least, I’m in the process of filming sketches for the remainder of Season 1 for “Just Blame Chad” the sneaker world’s 1st official sketch comedy show. http://www.funnyordie.com/osdlive

Fave quote to live by?

“Help Me Help You!” ~ Mateo Mulcare (R.I.P.)

whats your definition of urban culture?

(scratches head) you got me on this one. LOL Sounds like a term used by someone who drives through a neighborhood they have no intention of stopping in. Take that where you want to (LOL).

top 5 albums of all time?

If you have not heard any of these albums you should. SOON!

(1) No One Can Do It Better – D.O.C
(2) Fear Of A Black Planet- Public Enemy
(3) Death Certificate- Ice Cube
(4) Doc’s Da Name- Redman
(5) Live and Let Die-
Kool G Rap

Any industry/business advise for the reader?

Fail to plan and you plan to fail. Nothing you see others doing is as easy as it looks. Some folks make hard work look easy. That in itself is a hard thing to do.

Any last words?
