“We have long explored clean, utilitarian design which is something we expanded upon in the Nom de Guerre FW10 collection. Our approach to the Converse Skidgrip CVO shoe is also an exploration and study of uniforms, in particular. With Converse being a brand that has served as both a uniform and a statement of independence, we felt that it was an interesting juxtaposition. The collection and video further explores these themes with a lens on group solidarity, tension, and ideas of fraternity and sublimating one’s identity to operate within a group.” (Nom de Guerre)

Icarus Store Opening in Sydney, Australia

A new store in Sydney, Australia just opened its doors. Icarus Store is a menswear boutique located on Reservoir Street, which will become Australia’s prime stop for labels such as Clarks Originals, Commune de Paris, Opening Ceremony for men, Patrik Ervell, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie, Wings & Horns and Yuketen. The shop comes from owner Nathan Lim who, “think that customers are more and more looking for products that are of excellent quality and with an interesting story behind them so we wanted to offer male shoppers a destination where they could look to find one thing, or everything, in a unique store environment that matched the items we sell.”

Location: 42 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills, NSW 2010

From Icarus Store:

With an unmarked black façade, the store was somewhat envisaged as a secret location for people to
discover. Occupying what was once the front room of a period terrace house, the brick walls have been
returned to their original exposed face while the interior features soft lighting, brass details, wood and
even denim.

“One of the reasons I decided to open the store in this part of Surry Hills is because there a number of
architect firms and creative agencies on this street so it feels like there is a real creative energy during the
day,” Lim said.

The space was designed by emerging Sydney-based architect Lenny Wong and takes inspiration from the
Lower East Side neighbourhood of New York City. Lenny is a freelance designer of architecture, interiors,
environments and atmospheres. He has previously designed the interior of the Via Alley flagship store in
Surry Hills and the Via Alley Select store in The Galeries Victoria for which he was nominated as an
emerging designer in the 2009 IDEA Awards.
